Baseball Edged In Extra Innings Against Second-Seeded Franklin Pierce, 6-5

The fifth-seeded Adelphi University baseball team traveled to Rindge, New Hampshire to take on second-seeded Franklin Pierce University this afternoon in the double-elimination Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Ravens tied the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth and then went on to win in 10 innings, 6-5.

For the Panthers, junior Richard McCarren went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while senior Anthony Anzalone went 1-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Junior Keith Couch took the no-decision, giving up one earned run in 6.2 innings, and striking out nine. 

The Ravens got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when Mike Munoz scored on a Panther fielding error. Nick LaCroix scored the second Raven run on a RBI bunt single from Dan Kemp, giving Franklin Pierce a two-run lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, LaCroix sent a solo shot over the left field fence to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead.

Adelphi would then erupt for five runs in the top of the ninth inning. Anzalone would cut the Ravens' lead to 3-2 with a two-run single up the middle. Sophomore Justin Farnum and Anzalone would then come around to score on a pinch-hit double down the right field line off the bat of freshman Nick Pomo-Roman, which was then followed up by an RBI single from McCarren, for the fifth Panther run. 

Franklin Pierce would tie the score at 5-5 in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on two wild pitches. 

After Adelphi was held scoreless in the top of the 10th, Phil Hendricks delivered the game-winning hit with an RBI single to center. 

For the Ravens, LaCroix went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a home run, while Munoz went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Heath Wasylow got the win, giving up one hit and striking out one in one inning of relief. 

The Panthers return to action tomorrow as they face elimination against first-seeded Southern Connecticut State University at noon in Rindge, New Hampshire.
