Kemp Receives ECAC 2010 Division II Men's Lacrosse All-Star Honors

Adelphi University senior Kevin Kemp (Webster, N.Y.) has been named to the ECAC Division II Men's Lacrosse All-Star First-Team, it was announced on Wednesday.

LeMoyne College’s junior midfielder Matt Chadderdon is the 2010 ECAC Division II Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year. Chadderdon had 40 points on the season with 33 goals and seven assists. He collected 26 ground balls and caused six turnovers during the season for the Dolphins.  

Kevin DeBenedetto of Saint Anselm College has been honored as the 2010 ECAC Division II Defensive Player of the Year. DeBenedetto, a senior defender had an outstanding season, scooping up 72 ground balls and causing 54 turnovers. On the offensive end, he also scored three goals and dished one assist for four points. 

Brian Scheetz of Mercyhurst was selected as the 2010 ECAC Division II Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. The freshman attacker had 31 goals and 30 assists on the season, giving him 61 points. He also picked up 22 groundballs and had two caused turnovers.

Three student-athletes were selected as ECAC first team attackers. John McClure had a solid season for Dowling, scoring 58 goals and dishing out eight assists. Four of those goals were man-up opportunities, while he also scored two goals in man-down situations. The senior also recorded 33 ground balls.  Dowling teammate Kyle O’Brien also joins the squad after having 67 points on the season with 28 goals and 39 assists. The senior has played in every game for the Golden Lions, tallying 29 groundballs. Finalizing the group is Jack Harmatuk from Le Moyne. The junior posted 37 points on the season, with 27 goals and ten assists for the Dolphins.

Joining Chadderdon in the midfield on the ECAC first team is Tyler Burton from Mercyhurst. Burton netted 26 goals and dished out 12 assists, giving him 38 points on the season. Of those 26 goals, five were man-up opportunities and three were gamewinners. He also caused four turnovers and gathered 18 groundballs. Also joining the team is Kevin Kemp from Adelphi. Kemp scored 28 goals on the season and gave out nine assists. The senior also scooped up 35 groundballs.

Joining DeBenedetto on the ECAC first team defensive unit is Dowling’s Kyle Rubisch. Rubisch helped the Golden Lions advance into postseason play, collecting 63 ground balls and causing 34 turnovers. He also helped on the offensive end, scoring two goals and dishing out two assists.  Also joining the squad is Richard Schmidt from C.W. Post. The senior has led the Pioneers to the NCAA Division III final by scooping up 41 ground balls and causing 23 turnovers.

C.W. Post’s Michael Cama has been named as the ECAC first team specialist. The senior faceoff specialist won 71.7 percent of his faceoffs this season and collected 174 groundballs. He also picked up five points with three goals and two assists.   

Earning ECAC first team goalkeeper honors is Zachary Nash from Mercyhusrt. The junior started every game for the Lakers and has allowed 56 goals for a goals against average of 5.94. His .597 saves percentage has helped Mercyhurst to an 11-1 record.
