Game One|Game Two

The Adelphi University softball team took on Merrimack College this afternoon in North Andover, Massachusetts. After winning the opener, 5-3, in eight innings, Merrimack took game two winning, 7-2. With the split, Adelphi goes to 28-22 overall, 13-12 in Northeast-10 play, while Merrimack raises their record to 15-26 on the year, 11-17 in conference action.
Game One
Freshman Heather Salerno delivered the game-winning RBI double scoring junior Shay Craig putting Adelphi back in front, 4-3, in the top of the eighth inning. Freshman Jeanine Leo added insurance later in the Panthers' eighth, as she belted a RBI single platting home freshman Amy Ogden.
Craig went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the contest while Salerno also went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The Warriors rallied twice from a 2-0 margin and a 3-2 deficit bringing the game into extra sessions. In the Warriors' fifth, Alex Gallant hit a RBI single scoring Jamie Millett, tying the game at 2-2.
Freshman Amanda Dolan regained Adelphi's lead in the sixth as she crushed a solo home run to center. Merrimack answered right back as a Courtney Parker RBI single scored Amanda Zinni in the home half of the inning tying the game at 3-3.
Merrimack starter Atlee Cahill who tossed a complete game, took the loss, but led the Warriors' offensively going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Junior Deandra Leo homered in the Panthers' second and ripped a RBI single in the fourth gave Adelphi its first two runs of the afternoon. Leo finished 2-for-2, 2 RBI, and one run scored.
Junior Leighann Bell went the distance in the victory allowing three earned runs, and striking out three in eight innings pitched.
Game Two
The Warriors were led by a three-run barrage in both the third and fourth innings to pull ahead 6-1.
For Adelphi, Leo batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, while three Merrimack players collected two hits each in the game.
Monique Gosselin started the scoring rifling a three-run home run with two-outs in the third giving Merrimack its first lead of the afternoon, 3-0.
Leo cut the deficit to 3-2, in the Panthers' fourth, as she smacked a solo shot.
The Warriors added three runs in their half of the inning with a two-run RBI single by Kristen Lemay and a Kara Melillo RBI walk extended their lead to 6-1.
The Panthers tacked on their final run in the fifth as senior Ashley Vinti roped a RBI double scoring senior Rochelle Noren.
Gallant allowed seven hits, two earned runs, walked one, and struck out seven Panthers in seven innings pitched for the victory. Junior Marisa Romeo took the loss for Adelphi going 3.2 inning pitched, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits. Freshman Natalie Camarda relieved Romeo as she went the final 2.1 innings.
Adelphi continues its road trip on Sunday, May 2, traveling to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in its final regular season gamw. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
