Panthers Split With Yellow Jackets

Game One|Game Two

Springfield, Mass. - Freshman Amanda Dolan smacked the game-winning two-run homer with two outs in the seventh as Adelphi University rallied for a 4-2 victory to salvage the split with American International College. The Panthers (15-13, 5-5 NE10) dropped game one, 2-0, to the Yellow Jackets (11-15, 4-4 NE10).

Game One
Adelphi was unable to overcome missed opportunities in each of the first three innings stranding four runners in scoring position.

Sophomore Michele Niejadlik hit the game-winning solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Michele Franey doubled AIC's lead in the sixth, as she roped a RBI double to center to drive in Nicole Benoit for the 2-0 win.

Dolan recorded the win for the Yellow Jackets, giving up two runs in five ninings, with two walks and seven strikeouts. Senior Christine Robinson took the loss tossing a complete-game, two-hitter, allowing two earned and striking out four.

Game Two
Adelphi jumped out quickly to a 1-0 lead in the first as senior Rochelle Noren tripled to right leading off the game and crossed the plate on a sacrifice bunt RBI by senior Katie Brophy.

The Yellow Jackets plated their two unearned runs in the bottom of the third. Adelphi immediately responded in the fourth as senior Rochelle Noren roped a RBI double to right-center scoring Jeanine Leo from second.

For the Panthers, Dolan and Noren each finished 2-for-4 as Dolan had 2 RBI while Noren collected one RBI. Calgreen led the Yellow Jackets going 4-for-4.

AIC threatened to tie the game in the seventh with one out and two base-runners on, however, junior pitcher Leighann Bell got the AIC batter to line out to Heather Salerno for the unassisted game-ending double play.

Junior Shay Craig reached on a fielder's choice then crossed home plate for the game-winning run on Dolan's seventh inning homerun.

Bell earned the victory going the distance allowing nine hits on two run runs fanning nine.

Adelphi returns home on Saturday, April 10 as they take on The College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 conference doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. The games will be held at Dowling College's Brookhaven athletic complex.
