Junior third baseman Shay Craig (Boise,
ID/Timberlane) had a single, double and three-run home run and four RBI to
lead Adelphi University past Assumption College, 13-2, in the second game of
a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader Wednesday at Marois
Field.
In the opener senior first baseman Ashley Vinti (Oceanside,
NY/Oceanside) hammered a two-run home run to back an 11-hit attack as the
Panthers prevailed, 6-3.
GAME ONE: The Panthers led 2-1 after three innings scoring a run in the
first on an error and a second in the third inning on an RBI single by
freshman designated person Amanda Dolan (Hope Valley, RI/Chariho Regional).
The Greyhounds scored their first run on an RBI single by freshman
shortstop Brenna Morrissey (Salem, NH/Lawrence Academy) in the second
inning.
Adelphi scored four times in the fifth inning highlighted by the two-run
blast by Vinti. Freshman leftfielder Emily Dorko (Matamoras, PA/Delware
Valley) and senior centerfielder Rochelle Noren (Langley, BC/Walnut Grove)
added RBI singles.
The Greyhounds came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning as
freshman second baseman LAUREN MEDEIROS (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) plated the
first with an RBI double and junior designated person Ashley Bilodeau
(Manchester, CT/East Catholic) singled across the second.
GAME TWO: The Panthers scored three runs in the first inning with a
two-run single by freshman second baseman Heather Salerno (Staten Island,
NY/Tottenville) and an RBI double by Craig highlighting the inning. An RBI
single by senior rightfielder Katie Brophy (Beaverton, OR/Gig Harbor) made
it 4-0 in the second inning. Craig¹s three-run homer highlighted a five-run
third inning.
The Greyhounds got on the board in the fifth inning as senior catcher
Erin Murphy (Sarasota, FL/Cardinal Mooney) singled and rode home on an RBI
double by freshman third baseman Melissa Jalbert (Gardner, MA/Gardner).
Morrissey singled across the second run.
The Greyhounds are now 7-11 overall and 3-5 in conference action, while
Adelphi is 14-12 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday, April 8 at American International College. The conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
