BOX SCORE

Garden City, N.Y. - The #1 Adelphi women's lacrosse team led 22-0 at the half, en route to a 24-2 conference win over Southern Connecticut State University tonight at Competition Field. The Panthers improve to 9-0 and 6-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Owls drop to 0-7 and 0-5.

The game got underway about an hour late due to bus trouble for Southern Connecticut as they traveled to campus.

Adelphi got full support from its roster in the win with sophomore Erica Devito leading the way with four goals and four assists. Sophomore Claire Petersen had two goals and a collegiate career best of seven assists.

Sophomore Marissa Mills wasted no time putting the Panthers on board in the 2nd minute of play. Junior Kaitlyn Carter's back to back goals put Adelphi up 5-0 at 25:25. Freshman Demmianne Cook also tallied two straight goals to make it 10-0 at 23:30. Senior Allison Tumulty logged consecutive goals, both assisted by Devito to push the margin to 19-0 with 10:51 left in the half. Senior Danielle Kafarski registered a goal with 12 seconds on the clock to push the bulge to 22-0.

In the second half, the Panthers pulled back its offense, taking just four shots in the final 30 minutes of play. Two of those found the back of the net as junior Kristina Wargo and senior Alyssa LaBosco scored, with sophomore Alison Staudt assisting on both. The Owls did manage two goals in the contest, preventing the shutout as Theresa Monfredo scored on a free position shot and Lauren Karn's was unassisted.

Senior Caitlin Fitpatrick and freshman Cathryn Bonitz split time in the net for Adelphi, each making one stop. Lisa Corso took the loss for Southern Connecticut and was credited with four saves.

Adelphi is back in action on Saturday, April 10, as they host St. Michael's College at 12 noon. The Panthers will host its annual "Think Pink" event to bring awareness to breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink.
