Game One|Game Two
Old Westbury, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University softball team hosted Bloomfield College this afternoon on the campus of New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York in a non-conference doubleheader. Both games were called early due to the eight-run rule in the Panthers sweep over the Deacons winning 9-1 in five innings in game one and 11-3 in six innings in game two. With the sweep, Adelphi goes back to.500, improving to 12-12 on the season.
Game One
Adelphi took advantage of a Bloomfield defensive miscue plating three runs in the first. Senior Rochelle Noren reached base on a Deacons defensive error and scored a few batters later on a throwing error by Bloomfield starter Ashleigh Williams for the first run of the game. A few batters later, senior Ashley Vinti drove home senior Katie Brophy with a single to left. Vinti stole second and got to third on a base-knock by junior Deandra Leo. Freshman Emily Dorko executed with a RBI bunt bringing home VInti.
The Deacons scored their only run in the fourth as Williams RBI single scored Brittany Devries.
The Panthers crossed the plate six times in the bottom of the fourth, turning a 3-1 lead to 9-1 contest, which ended the game. Five Adelphi batters reached base before an out was recorded as the two big blows came from junior Shay Craig and freshman Amanda Dolan. Craig belted a RBI double to left center scoring seniors Rochelle Noren and Christine Robinson for a 6-1 affair. The next batter, Dolan sealed the win as she blasted a three-run home run to left center field.
For the Panthers, Craig batted 2-for-3 with three RBI and Leo also went 2-for-3.
Senior Christine Robinson picked up the win, pitching a complete-game, allowed four hits, on one run, striking out two.
Game Two
Adelphi's bats were contagious as they hammered for 11 runs on 13 hits in the 11-3 victory in six innings. The Panthers held a 5-3 advantage, scoring four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth ending the contest.
The Deacons scored all three runs in the top of fourth. Two of their three runs came off the bat of Daliana Perez and Brianne Moore as they both delivered RBI singles scoring Nicole Cagnino and Ashton Corley.
Freshman Paige Rhodes roped a RBI double to left center with the bases loaded that brought Leo and junior Leighann Bell home in the fifth as Adelphi extended their lead to 7-3. Freshman Heather Salerno scored on an illegal pitch by Devries moving Rhodes up 60 feet to third. Salerno scored on a RBI by Noren. With one out in the inning, Leo doubled to left center, Bell drew a walk, and Salerno singled.
Rhodes, who finished game two batting 3-for-4 with 4 RBI's and one run scored, ended the contest with a RBI single up the middle brining home pinch-runner Liz Lindner in the Panthers' sixth.
Perez led Bloomfield batting 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.
Bell notched the win going the distance, six innings pitched, allowing three runs, on eight hits, striking out four.
Adelphi will look to keep their bats rolling as they travel to Worchester, Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 7th as they take on Assumption College in a Northeast-10 conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
