Men's Lacrosse Drops One Goal Decision to Merrimack, 6-5

North Andover, MA - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team traveled to North Andover, Massachusetts to take on Northeast-10 rival Merrimack College on Saturday, April 3. The Panthers built a 5-2 lead mid-way through the third period, before giving up four Merrimack goals, dropping a tight game, 6-5. With the loss Adelphi falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NE-10, while Merrimack improves to 6-1 and 4-0.

Adelphi scored the only goal of the first period as Kevin Kemp took a Chris Aiello feed and found the back of the net with 4:07 to play. Kemp scored again in the second period, this time getting help from Michael Rossi to push the Panther lead to 2-0 with 8:06 on the clock. Less then two minutes later Connor McCann beat Merrimack's Corey Spinale, courtesy of another Aiello pass to give Adelphi a nice 3-0 lead.

However, Merrimack closed out the first half of play with back-to-back goals to enter the intermission, trailing by just one, 3-2. Adelphi pushed the lead back to three goals as both Danny Blau and Rossi notched goals in the third period to give the Panthers a 5-2 lead with 7:32 remaining.

Merrimack again scored back-to-back goals to end the third quarter, pulling to within one, 5-4 with 1:01 left in the period. Nick Maggio then tied the score at five, just six seconds into the fourth and final period.

With the game knotted at five late, Merrimack's Greg Melaugh took a feed from Greg Fallon and slipped the ball past Devin Schneiderbauer, giving the host school it's first lead of the game.

From there, Cory Spinale made four saves to keep Merrimack ahead as the Panthers increased the pressure., but an Adelphi turnover with 1:02 left sealed the victory for Merrimack.

Schneiderbauer kept the Panthers in the game as he made 18 saves on the afternoon.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, April 7 when they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts for a 7:00 pm meeting with Assumption.
