Softball Takes Two Against Pace

Game One|Game Two

Briarcliffe, N.Y. - Senior Christine Robinson blasted a three-run homer and recorded the win on the mound in game two to secure a 8-1 victory over Pace University. The Panthers held off a late rally in game one to win, 4-3, for the conference sweep. They improve to 27-21 and 15-11, while the Setters fall to 22-24 and 10-16.

Adelphi was led offensively by senior Rochelle Noren who went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and 1 RBI. Junior Shay Craig was 2-for-5 with one run and 4 RBI.

Game One
Noren tripled to start the inning, then rounded home on a Craig SAC fly. The Setters responded to knot the score in the bottom of the inning. In the second inning, junior Deandra Leo and freshman Heather Salerno, singled and doubled, respectively, to set up the two RBI double by freshmanEmily Dorko. Dorko then stole second and scored on a Noren single to push the lead to 4-1.

Pace threatened with runs in the third and fourth, including a solo homerun by Calcagnini. But the Setters stranded two runners in the fifth and were held hitless by senior Leighann Bell (13-9) in the final two innings as the Panthers held on for the win.

Adelphi had four runs on 10 hits with no errors. Pace had three runs on seven hits with no errors.

Game Two
Noren again crossed home plate in the first inning. After a hit by pitch and stealing second, she scored on a ground out by Craig. Three hits for the Setters in the third inning, resulted in a game-tying run, 1-1. Adelphi surged ahead in the sixth inning, with Robinson accounting for three of the four runs, 5-1. In the seventh inning, Noren reached first on a fielding error, followed by a senior Katie Brophy double. Both runners scored on a Craig double, as she scored the final run on a single by freshman Amy Ogden.

Robinson (11-10) went the distance with seven hits, one run, while fanning five.

Adelphi had eight runs on 11 hits with two errors. Pace had one run on seven hits with one error.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, May 1, at Merrimack College. Game time is scheduled for a 12 noon start.
