Baseball Shut Down By Pace, 3-1

The Adelphi University baseball team hosted the Setters of Pace University this afternoon on William J. Bonomo Memorial field. Pace held the Panthers to one run on the afternoon en route to the victory, 3-1. Pace improves to 14-25 and 7-16 in the Northeast-10, while Adelphi falls to 29-13 and 15-8.

For the Panthers, sophomore T.J. Humrich went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while classmate Craig Matteo went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Mike Scudero suffered the loss, giving up two runs over four innings, and striking out four.

Pace got on the board in the top of the first inning when Chris Roemer drew a walk with the bases loaded. The Setters second run would come in the top of the fourth when Roemer scored on a RBI single up the middle off the bat of Christopher Spatkowski.

In the fifth, Pace would take a 3-0 lead when Vinny Dammann hit a solo home run to right. Adelphi would get on the board in the bottom half of the inning when Matteo plated Humirch with an RBI single to center.

The Panthers threatened in the bottom of the ninth after back-to-back singles from Humirch and sophomore Justin Farnum, but it wasn't enough as Pace held on for the win.

For the Setters, Roemer went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Dammann went 2-for-5 with a home run. Brian Sundberg went the distance for the win, giving up five hits, one run, and striking out three.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow, April 28 when they travel to take on Pace University at 3:30 p.m.
