Game One|Game Two

The Adelphi University softball team hosted Bentley University this afternoon in the Panthers regular season home finale. Junior Leighann Bell fanned 15 Falcons as the Panthers took game one, 6-1 Adelphi completed the sweep in the nightcap winning 8-3, as freshman Amanda Dolan led the way smacking two homeruns. Adelphi improves their record to 25-11 overall, 13-11 in Northeast-10 action, while Bentley falls to 11-19 on the season, 8-13 in league play.
Game One
For the Panthers, seniors Rochelle Noren and Katie Brophy led the offense racking up six of the teams 12 hits. Both players went 3-for-4 with one run scored as Brophy collected one RBI. Junior Deandra Leo also went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in game one's victory.
Adelphi capitalized on two defensive miscues committed by the Falcons leading to a four-run bottom of the first. Dolan's RBI single scored Brophy making the score a 2-0 game. After Craig crossed the plate off of a throwing error by Bentley, Deandra Leo roped a RBI single scoring Dolan for a 4-0 Adelphi lead.
Bell tossed a complete game, four-hitter, allowing one run, one walk, and striking out 15 batters. She was in complete control as the only danger she faced was in the Falcons' fifth.
Bentley had their first two batters reach base on consecutive singles to start the fifth frame. Bell got Ortiz to ground into a fielder's choice and than struck out Erica Thibodeau and Taylor Feery swinging ending the potential threat.
Adelphi used the same tactic in the fourth and fifth innings adding some insurance runs to their advantage. In the fourth, freshman Emily Dorko singled with one-out and stole second. Brophy roped a RBI double trotting home Dorko. Freshman Amy Ogden singled to leadoff the frame and stole second. She was brought home on a RBI double by Deandra Leo.
Game Two
Craig went 3-for-4 with two runs scored as Leo batted 2-for-3 for the Panthers. For the Falcons, Lindsay Ayers led the way going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.
The Panthers posted a two-spot in each of the first two innings jumping out to a 4-0 advantage. With two-outs in the first, Dolan rocked a two-run homerun 225 feet to left-center opening the scoring for the Panthers.
Bentley used a two-out rally in the third trimming Adelphi's lead to one, 4-3. Lindsay Ayers connected with a two-run RBI single trotted home Megan Blair and Christine D'Amico. Adelphi senior starter Christine Robinson was pulled after Ayers' base-hit and was relieved Bell, who picked up the victory in the opener. Bell got out of the inning striking out Brittany Walters.
Dolan added some breathing room for the Panthers as she smacked her second homerun of the game in the Panthers' fifth. With one-out in the frame and Brophy on first, Dolan blasted a shot to left-center over the fence putting Adelphi on top 6-3.
Bell escaped a serious threat in the Falcons' fifth. Bentley had the bases loaded with one-out as Feery hit a little dribbler to third played perfectly by Craig as she fired home nailing Blier at the plate. Bell closed the fifth striking out Brittany Walter.
In relief Bell went 4.1 innings pitched, allowing zero runs, on five hits, striking out five, for the win.
The Panthers continue to swing away as they travel to Pace University in a Northeast-10 conference doubleheader action on Tuesday, April 27. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
