Game One
Dowling plated two insurance runs in the top of the seventh widening their lead from a 2-1, to a 4-1 margin. Kristen Weeks and Deana Tortorici rifled consecutive RBI doubles to center giving the Golden Lions a three-run cushion.
Weeks and Tortorici led the way for the Golden Lions as they collected for four of Dowling's seven hits in the contest. Weeks batted 2-for-3 with one RBI while Tortorici was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Amy Ogden batted 2-for-2 leading the way for the Panthers.
Dowling started the scoring in the second as Jillian Minix smashed a two-out, two-run RBI single to right scoring Weeks and Tortorici. Adelphi starter Leighann Bell got the first two Golden Lions' players out to start the inning; however a Weeks bloop single and Tortorici double set the stage for Minix.
The game was halted for 1 hr and 13 minute rain delay in the bottom of the second because of lightning in the area.
The Panthers trimmed the deficit in half with two-outs in the fourth as Heather Salerno reached on a throwing error scoring pinch-runner Jacqueline Bellairs from third. Amanda Dolan singled to right leading off the inning and was pinch-ran for by Bellairs.
Adelphi threatened in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game up, however, Dowling starter Felicia Mendoza induced Amanda Dolan to ground out in the second with a teammate on base and got Heather Salerno to ground out to second with Amy Ogden off third.
Mendoza earned the victory pitching a complete game, four-hitter, fanning six, allowing one run, none earned. Bell allowed four earned runs, striking out four in defeat.
Game Two
Adelphi starter Christine Robinson was overmatched by her counter-part Dowling hurler Jamie Stalter as the Golden Lions completed the sweep winning the nightcap by a final of 4-1.
Stalter tossed a one-hit gem, allowing one earned run, striking out 13 Adelphi batters en route to the victory. She retired the final 12 Adelphi batters in order as Katie Brophy was the last Panther to reach base as she drew a walk in the third.
The only hit allowed by Stalter was a RBI double by Rochelle Noren leading off the Panthers' first. Noren advanced to third on a sacrifice by Brophy and scored on a wild pitch for the Adelphi first lead of the afternoon.
Emily Slack led the way for Dowling going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and one run scored.
Slack's two-out, two-run single up the middle in the Golden Lions' third gave Dowling a 2-1 advantage. The inning began with a Minix walk and a base hit by Lisa Compitello. Robinson hit Stephanie Tarango to load the bases with two-outs as Slack delivered with the two-run knock.
The Golden Lions tacked on one run each in the sixth and seventh innings as Kristina DeMeo and Slack delivered RBI singles.
The Panthers look to get back to their winning ways as they square off against Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 24. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
