Junior Elizabeth Fey tallied six goals to lead #1 Adelphi University to its 13th straight win, defeating the University of New Haven, 24-7. The Panthers improve 13-0 and 10-0 in the conference, while the Chargers fall to 5-8 and 4-5 in the Northeast-10.
Freshman Demmianne Cook scored two of the first three Panther goals to open a 3-0 lead at 24:35. Sarah Mangone put the Chargers on board at 22:31. Junior Michelle Ceraso's unassisted goal at 22:16 spurred a 9-0 run capped by Fey's second tally of the day on an assist from sophomore Claire Petersen. The Chargers rallied, registering three straight goals, 12-4, through the 26th minute. Senior Danielle Kafarski ended the streak, with help from Petersen who finished the day with seven assists. Petersen then collected the second of her four goals on an assist from Ceraso to push the lead to 14-4. The Chargers Sarah LeGoff had the last word, scoring on a free position shot with 1:14 left in the half. Adelphi led 14-5 at intermission.
The Panthers opened the second half with a 3-2 scoring margin, capped by a New Haven point at 17:16, 17-7. This would be the last goal for UNH as Adelphi closed on a 7-0 tear. Junior Kristina Wargo had back to back free position goals through the 12:17 mark. Sophomore Erica Devito snuck in a free position goal at 9:26. Then Fey took charge, scoring the last three goals for the Panthers, two assisted by Petersen, to close out the contest, 24-7.
Senior Caitlin Fitzpatrick made nine stops in the win, while Maureen Spellman had four saves for the Chargers.
Adelphi is back in action on Saturday, April 24, as they host Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 p.m. The home contest is also Think Pink Day with all fans encouraged to wear pink in support of a cure of breast cancer. In addition, all lacrosse alumni are invited to attend and celebrate Senior Day with the Panthers.
