Game One|Game Two
Manchester, N.H. -
The Adelphi softball team dropped game one, 5-4, before rallying in game two, 5-3, in a conference doubleheader tonight versus Saint Anselm College. The Panthers move to 20-16 and 8-8 in the Northeast-10, while the Hawks are 14-16 and 7-9.
Game One
Senior Rochelle Noren doubled in her first at bat then moved to third on a single by senior Katie Brophy. A sac bunt by junior Shay Craig drove in Noren for the first run. The Hawks were quick to respond as McCabe homered in the bottom of the first to knot the score. Saint Anselm extended its lead in the bottom of the third, first with a RBI single by Giannino, followed by a three-run homerun by Pease, 5-1.
The Panthers came back in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to close the gap. Noren tallied a two RBI double to score freshman Heather Salerno and pinch runner Jacqueline Bellairs. Noren then crossed homeplate on a Brophy single. The Panthers left two runners stranded in the remaining innings and were unable complete the rally.
Lemire went the distance for the Hawks with nine hits, four runs, four earned with four strikeouts and two walks. Senior Christine Robinson (9-7) took the loss in 2.2 innings pitched.
Game Two
A costly Panther error set up the Hawks to score in the top of the first inning. However a two RBI double by freshman Amanda Dolan in the bottom of the third scored freshman Emily Dorko and Salerno to put Adelphi back up, 2-1. Saint Anselm managed to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Jeanine Leo scored in the fourth, after a single, stolen base and a sac play by Noren brought her home. Salerno scored what would be the game-winning run on a wild pitch. Brophy doubled next before scoring on a double by Craig. The Hawks added an extra run in the fifth, but the Panthers held on for the win.
Junior Leighann Bell (8-7) recorded the win, with eight hits, three runs, two earned, with two strikeouts.
Adelphi returns to action on Monday, April 19, as they take on Southern New Hampshire in a rescheduled contest originally scheduled for this past Saturday. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
