Sophomore Claire Petersen tallied all of her five goals in the first half, while dishing out a total of seven assists to lead #1 Adelphi University to a 24-2 victory over Saint Anselm College this afternoon in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse action. The Panthers remain unblemished at 12-0 and 9-0 in the conference, while the Hawks fall to 4-6 and 2-5.
Petersen accounted for the first three Adelphi goals and assisted on senior Corinne Pingitore's tally at 16:55 to open on a 7-0 run. Leigh Krzyston put the Hawks on board at 15:19 on an assist from Britini Hickman, but this would prove to be their only goal of the half. The Panthers closed the stanza with eight unanswered goals, including Pingitore's third of the day at the buzzer to push the lead to 15-1.
Junior Elizabeth Fey collected her second and third goals of the day to open the second half, 17-1. Sophomore Erica Devito sandwiched her two goals around Saint Anslem's Katie O'Brien, to push the margin to 19-2, with 22:55 left to go. Junior Kristina Wargo registered back to back goals, followed by Petersen's fifth on a feed by senior Alison Incarnato at 11:35. Sophomore Alison Staudt scored the final goal on a dish from junior Nicole Bass in the 54th minute, 24-2.
The Panthers outshot the Hawks 44-6 with a 26-16 ground ball advantage. Senior Caitlin Fitzpatrick made three stops in 54:26 minutes in the net. Freshman Cathryn Bonitz stepped in for the remaining 5:34 of play. Katherine O'Hara had 15 saves for Saint Anslem.
Adelphi's win streak now stands at 30 straight, including the its 18-0 season in 2009. The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, April 20, as they head to the University of New Haven for a 4:00 p.m. match-up.
