The Adelphi University baseball team hosted the Knights of Queens College this afternoon in a non-conference contest. Sophomore Justin Farnum drove in the winning run with a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Adelphi improves to 5-2, while Queens falls to 5-5.
For the Panthers, senior Justin Ciamillo went 2-for-4 while junior Trevor Thorstensen went 1-for-2 and scored the game's only run. Freshman Nick Pomo-Roman finished the afternoon going 1-for-4. Senior Mike Bartlett threw six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out seven, while sophomore Michael Carletti earned the win, going one and two thirds and surrendering three hits. Junior Robert Nixon struck out two in one and a third inning of work, picking up the save.
The game was scoreless until the bottom half of the seventh inning when Farnum's pinch-hit single up the middle drove in Thorstensen for the game-winning run. The Knights collected eight hits to the Panthers' five, while the Knights committed two errors in the field.
For the Knights, Robert Bernardo went 3-for-4, while Jeffrey Gomez collected two hits in three plate appearances. Steve Kaplan suffered a tough loss, throwing eight innings, giving up one run and sitting down five.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday, March 11 when they take on Bloomfield College at 10:00 am in Boca Raton, Florida.
