Box Score

West Haven, CT - The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to West Haven, Connecticut to take on Northeast-10 opponent New Haven on Wednesday, March 24. The Panthers got on the board first, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth, but were matched by New Haven. However, Adelphi scored two runs in the sixth to pick up the 5-3 win and improve to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in Northeast-10 play.

Adelphi's three run fourth started as Rich McCarren reached first on an error and advanced to second on the throw to first with no outs. Anthony Anzalone followed that up with a single to center, scoring McCarren. Anzalone then stole second followed by a Justin Ciamillo bunt single, giving Adelphi no outs and runners on first and second.

A Justin Farnum bunt loaded the bases and the next batter, Chris Weidlein stroked a single to right that scored both Anzalone and Ciamillo, giving Adelphi a 3-0 lead. The Panther rally was cut short as Farnum was picked off and T.J. Humrich hit into a double play.

In the bottom of the fifth, New Haven knotted the score at three, taking advantage of four straight singles and two Adelphi errors to bring their three runs across the plate. The Panthers responded in the sixth as Anzalone got this started with a single to left field. He was doubled home by Ciamillo, who would later score on a wild pitch, giving the Panthers a 5-3 lead.

Mike Bartlett kept the Chargers quiet for most of the 5.2 innings that he pitched, striking out five, walking two and allowing just one earned run, picking up the win. Jason Intelisano shut the door on New Haven, tossing 3.1 innings of scoreless, four strike out, no hit relief, collecting his second save of the year.

Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, March 25 when they play host to New Have at 3:30 pm in Garden City, New York.
