Softball Opens 2010 Season With 2-0 Start

March 14, 2010

Game One|Game Two

Kissimee, Fl. - The Adelphi University softball team picked up two wins to open the 2010 season, shutting out Indiana (PA) and Wilmington (DE), 1-0 and 2-0, respectively.

Game 1. Adelphi 1, Indiana (PA) 0

Senior Christine Robinson pitched all seven innings of the shutout, giving up four hits, while striking out eight and walking one. The Panthers went ahead on a solo shot by Shay Craig in the sixth inning.

IUP's best chance to score came in the top of the 7th when with one out, Kristen Tunno doubled to center. Robinson racked up her 8th K of the outing for the second out of the inning, bringing IUP's Ashley Arentz to the plate. Arentz lined a shot to a shallow right field. Senior Katie Brophy sealed the win for Adelphi with a diving catch, handing IUP their first loss of the season.

Game Two: Adelphi 2, Wilmington (DE) 0

In the first inning, senior Rochelle Noren led off with a single and stole second. Freshman Amanda Dolan hit a two-out homerun, to score Noren and herself. Those two runs would be enough as junior Leighann Bell and freshman Natalie Camarda, who stepped in to pitch in the fifth inning, teamed up to keep Wilmington scoreless.

The Panthers are back in action today as they take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Caldwell College.
