March 13, 2010

Box Score

Palm Beach, FL -

The Adelphi University baseball team took on former ECC-rival Dowling College this afternoon in Palm Beach, Florida. Junior Keith Couch was perfect through four innings then gave up a hit before getting himself out of a bases loaded jam as Adelphi won a thriller, 2-1.

Couch fanned 11 in seven innings before giving way to fellow junior Robert Nixon who went two scorless to get the win. Sophomore Justin Farnum delivered an RBI single in the first inning for the Panthers. It stayed that way until the fifth when DOwling scored on an infield single.

In the bottom of the ninth, senior Anthony Anzalone singled up the middle with one out. Then on a 3-2 pitch Anzalone was running and sophomore T.J. Humrich hit a screaming liner to RCF just out of the diving arm of Frank Intagliata. Anzalone raced home with the winning run.

"It is always a thiller with Dowling, they are tough and scrapy and never give up," said Head Coach Dom Scala. "Gabriel Duran and Keith Couch pitched a gem today. This was a great character game for us to win. I am happy for the kids."

Adelphi, who improves to 8-2 on the season, returns to action on Monday, March 15 when they take on Lincoln Memorial University at 2:00 pm.
