Baseball Defeats Bloomfield And University Of The Sciences At Philadelphia

The Adelphi University baseball team took on Bloomfield College and the University of the Sciences at Philadelphia yesterday in its first set of games during their spring break trip. The Panthers took the first game, 6-5 in 10 innings, while cruising to a 7-0 victory in the second. The Panthers improve to 7-2.

The Panthers, who were down 5-0 headed into the fifth inning, would start to make their comeback after sophomore Justin Farnum drove in senior Chris Weidlein for the first run. The Panther bullpen did anoutstanding job in keeping Bloomfield in check the rest of the game.  Junior Oren Rasowsky threw one and a third innings, while senior Teddy Rohrs completed four innings of work and struck out two for the win. 

Senior Justin Ciamillo singled home freshman Nick Pomo-Roman with the tying run. Then in the 10th, Pomo-Roman drew a walk, stole second, and reached third on a passed ball. Senior Anthony Anzalone would then hit into a fielders choice in which Pomo-Roman scored the winning run. Weidlein finished the day with three hits, including one double.

In game two, junior Jonathan Gonzalez pitched five scorless innings to get his first win as a Panthers, as Adelphi collected 13 hits in a 7-0 victory. Anzalone had 3 hits and drove in three, while Farnum had two hits and two RBI. Freshman Jimmy Milani and Salvatore Persico went two innings a piece for the victory.

The Panthers return to action today when they take on Felician College in a doubleheader in Palm Beach, Florida.
