Adelphi Women Checked By the Golden Knights, 86-49

Albany, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team suffered its seventh straight loss, falling to the College of Saint Rose, 86-49. The Golden Knights improve to 12-11 and 11-7 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers sink to 3-20 and 0-18 in conference play.

The Panthers struggled from the opening tip-off and connected on just 5 of 27 attempts from the field. In contrast, the Golden Knights shot 46.2 percent, including 6-for-9 from beyond the arc, as they quickly opened a comfortable lead which they held going into intermission, 44-12.

Adelphi's shooting improved significantly in the second stanza, hitting 45.5 percent. Junior Ashley Caiafa posted 14 of her game-high 19 points to assist in the Panther rally. However, Saint Rose remained sharp throughout and were never threatened.

In a civilized game that tallied a combined 20 fouls and just 23 trips to the line, Saint Rose held a significant advantage on the boards, pulling down 47 rebounds compared with 29 for Adelphi.

Elizabeth Buckley led the Golden Knights with 18 points, followed by Ashley Rath with 15 points. Alison McGrath added 12 points off the bench along with six rebounds.

Adelphi returns to Garden City to host Assumption College this Saturday, February 13 at 1:00 p.m. The game marks the school's third straight year in support of the WBCA's Pink Zone. Fans are encouraged to wear pink. At half-time, the Panthers will present a check to the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program for funds raised this year. To date, Adelphi Athletics has raised over $17,000 for the hotline.
