Adelphi Women Tripped Up By New Haven, 66-56

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team succumbed to the University of New Haven, 66-56, in its regular season finale tonight at the Center for Recreation & Sports. The Chargers improve to 13-15 and 11-11 in the Northeast-10, as the Panthers finish the season 4-23 and 1-21.

Junior Ashley Caiafa led all players with 21 points, while grabbing six rebounds. Sophomore Erika Cottle had 10 points, as freshman Kara Tancredi pulled down a team high seven boards to go along with nine points.

The Panther opened on a 4-3 run, at 16:46 but that would prove to be their last lead. The Chargers rallied on a 15-3 run to lead, 18-7, at 9:54. Adelphi managed to close the gap to two points on a Phelan Livingston layup, 28-26, with 2:29 remaining in the first half. However, back to back baskets by D. Stellmacher opened the gap to 32-26 at intermission.

UNH's rally continued into the second half as they pushed its lead back to 12 points on a Jasmine Hardy three-pointer, 41-29, at 14:03. Caifa accounted for five of the next seven Panther points to cut the lead, 41-36, with 12:00 remaining in regulation, but that was as close as they would get. The Chargers led by as much as 17 points down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Nicole Pollard led New Haven with 15 points, with Helin Marte chipping in 12 points.

Prior to the start of tonight's game, the Panthers recognized their senior class of 2010, Hunter Marek and Keri Schumacher and Caitlin Wetmore.
