The Adelphi University women's basketball team fell behind, 39-27, in the first half and were unable to rally back against American International College, falling 67-50. The Yellowjackets improve to 11-15 and 9-12 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers fall to 4-22 and 1-20.
Freshman Kara Tancredi led the Panthers with a game-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds, while sophomore Erika Cottle added 12 points.
Tancredi scored four of Adelphi's first seven points to lead, 7-2, at 17:49. The Yellowjackets challenged, closing to within one point several times, but the Panthers stayed on top. Junior Ashley Caiafa's jumper at 12:11, pushed the lead back to five, 19-14. AIC slowly closed the gap and took the lead on two made free throws by Josephine McLane with 6:35 remaining, 24-23. This spurred the Yellowjackets, who closed the half on a 14-4 run.
The second half was much of the same as AIC's lead ballooned to 28 points, 67-39, with 5:59 left in regulation. This would prove to be the last basket for the Yellowjackets as the Panthers closed on a 11-0 run, but ran out of the time, falling 67-50 at the buzzer.
Adriana Johnson and Rhea Pascal each tallied 14 points for AIC, with Kristin Bosenberg and McLane chipping in 10 points, apiece. The Yellowjackets held a substantial 47-21 advantage on the boards, led by Sasha Lowery with 11 rebounds.
The Panther return to action next Wednesday, February 24, as they close out their season at home hosting the University of New Haven at 5:30 p.m.
