Lowell, Mass. -

The Adelphi field hockey traveled to Lowell, Massachusetts as they took on nationally second-ranked River Hawks of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. The River Hawks lit up the scoreboard four times in the first half en-route to a 5-1 win over Adelphi. With the loss, the Panthers drop their record to 11-7 overall, 6-3 in NE-10 competition, while the River Hawks clinch a share of the Northeast-10 Regular Season Title, and go to 19-0, 9-0 in league play.

Senior Katie Enaire led the River Hawks with three goals and seven shots, while freshman goalie Melanie Hopkins recorded three saves.  Junior defender Crystal Gray scored the lone goal for the Panthers, junior co-captain Julianne Gerbino recorded a team-high four shots, while sophomore goalie Krystine Puzio stopped seven shots in the final 34 minutes of play.

The first two scored came off the stick of Enaire.   She opened the scoring at the 4:07 mark as senior Liz Day’s shot was deflected by Enaire.   Nine minutes later, junior Annie Hansbury fired a blister that Enaire changed the direction, putting the ball passed Vigliotti for a 2-0 score.

UMASS-Lowell continued the pressure as junior Abby Auld’ s shot was deflected home by senior Sam Macy for a 3-0 River Hawks advantage at 23:49.  The River Hawks tacked on one more as freshman Rachel McCarthy deposited a shot into the net with a shade over ten minutes left in the first half.

The River Hawks out-shot the Panthers 29-10, 17-2 the first half and held an 18-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Gray scored her fourth of the season as she received a pass from junior co-captain Jeanette Heimerle putting Adelphi within three scores, 4-1, in the 43rd minute.   Heimerle was on the side of the net and found a wide open Gray who was standing in front of the cage as she put it past Hopkins.

UMASS-Lowell scored the final goal of the game as the duo of Enaire and Hansbury teamed up one a final time.  Hansbury found Enaire at the top of the circle and she blasted a shot by Puzio for the final tally.

The Panthers return home on Wednesday, November 10th as they conclude conference play taking on the Yellow Jackets of American International College at 4:00 p.m.
