The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to New York, New York on Wednesday, November 3 to take on Ivy League Conference member Columbia University. The Panthers were out shot, 17-11, but make their six on goal attempts count, scoring on half of them to come away with a 3-0 victory. With the win the Panthers improve to 9-6-1 overall, while Columbia falls to 5-7-2.
The Panthers opened up the scoring early, as Issa Tall sent a cross into the Columbia penalty area where it found the foot of John Koutsounadis. Koutsounadis rifled a shot to the far post from 15 yards out and found the back of the net, giving Adelphi a 1-0 edge just 17 minutes into the action.
Tall scored a goal of his own just nine minutes later as Alexander Kouznetsov played a threw ball into Adelphi's attacking third of the field. Tall ran onto the ball and beat Columbia's Alexander Aurrichio for his third goal in two game and to push the Adelphi advantage to 2-0, which is how the game would enter the half.
Adelphi struck one more time in the second half as Michael Aquino fed Brandon Stoneham. Stoneham was able to collect the ball and slot it under the goalkeepers legs to give the Panthers some breathing room as the clock read, 3-0 with 30 minutes of action left.
Panther goalkeeper, Thorne Holder would keep the Lions off the board as he made seven saves to perseve the win and collect his seventh shut out of the season, Aurrichio made three saves in the loss.
Adelphi returns to action on Monday, November 8 when they close out regular season and conference play at 3:00 pm against Houston Baptist.
