The Adelphi University women's basketball team hosted the Greyhounds of Assumption College this afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Assumption held a 22-point lead at the half and never looked back en route to the 67-41 victory. The Greyhounds improve to 4-1 and 3-0 in the NE-10, while the Panthers fall to 1-3 and 0-3.
For the Panthers, sophomore Kara Tancredi scored a team-best 15 points to go along with six rebounds, while senior Ashley Caiafa added 13 points and seven boards.
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 10-point lead, 15-5, with 12:53 left in the first half after a lay-up from Kelly Meredith. The Panthers would cut into the lead and get within six with just under 10 minutes left in the half when junior Amanda Campusano drilled a three-pointer. Over the next three minutes Assumption went on a 13-2 run to take a 28-11 lead with 6:30 left until the half. AU would get a bucket from freshman Marielle Duryea right before the half to make the score 38-16 in favor of the Greyhounds.
Just over three and a half minutes into the second half, Assumption would extend their lead to 30 on a jumper from Sabrina Siciliano. The Greyhounds maintained a 24-point or better lead throughout the second half and at one point jumped out to a 31-point lead, 54-23.
The Greyhounds shot 50-percent from the field for the game, while Adelphi shot just 24.1-percent. The Greyhounds also held the advantage on the boards 39-37.
For Assumption, Siciliano led the way with a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds, while Meredith tossed in 15 points with four rebounds. Katy Howard and Molly Griffiths each scored 13 points, while Griffiths collected 11 rebounds.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, December 1 when they host Southern Connecticut State University at 5:30 p.m.
