The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Brookville, New York on Friday, October 8 to keep the cross-town rivalry alive with C.W. Post. Adelphi fell in the first game, but rallied to take the three of the next four and pick up a strong non-conference win, 3-2. With the win Adelphi improves to 10-6 overall, while C.W. Post falls to 14-7.
The Panthers fought hard in game one, forcing extra points, but falling 28-26. C.W. Post produced 16 kills to 14 for Adelphi in the first game. The second game was just as tight but it was the defense that secured the win this time, as both teams combined to produce just 21 kills and a total of 18 errors in a 25-21 Adelphi win.
The third game was all Adelphi as the Panthers posted their highest attack percentage (.279) and most kills (15) in a 25-18 win, taking a 2-1 edge. However, C.W. Post was not done, turning the tables on Adelphi in game four with a 25-17 win that saw the Pioneers post their best attack percentage of the day, .222. The fifth and final game went Adelphi's way, as the Panthers picked up a 15-12 win and the match victory.
Hilary Pavels led the way with a team-high 15 kills and 13 digs, while Chelsea Overholt had 12 kills and Emily Dorko posted 10. Heather Mau led three Panthers with 20+ kills as she had 25, Bree Popham collected 23 and Overholt had 21. Mau also had a team-high 37 assists in the win.
Adelphi returns to action with two games on Sunday, October 10 when they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts for games with Assumption and Mercy.
