The roles reversed a little in the second half as the Owls out shot Adelphi, 7-4. But, the Panthers still managed several nice opportunities, perhaps their best coming off the foot of Kim Volinski inside the penalty area. However, that effort was blocked by an Owl defender. Southern Connecticut also had a quality chance at goal in the second frame as Allison Ditolla took a rip from about 30 yards out and just sent the ball over the crossbar.
Southern Connecticut had the kick in overtime, sending the ball into the left corner of the Adelphi end. From there the Owls managed to earn a thrown in from the right corner of the field, sending the ball into Jenna Mallico, who tip toed the end line. Mallico moved toward the goal and just chipped the ball past a diving Dorothy Connolly, giving the Owls a, 1-0 victory.
Connolly kept Adelphi in the game, making five saves in the loss, while Olivia Herrernan made four stops for Southern Connecticut.
Adelphi returns to action on Friday, October 8 when they play host to Franklin Pierce University at 4:00 pm on Motamed Field.
