The Adelphi University men's soccer team played host to Atlantic Soccer Conference opponent NJIT on Saturday, October 30, celebrating "Senior Night". Issa Tall made sure the senior's had a night to remember, tallying two goals and giving Adelphi a 4-0 victory. With the win the Panthers improve to 8-6-1 overall and remain unbeaten in ASC play at 2-0-1, while NJIT falls to 4-11 and 1-1 in the conference.
Steven Rivera opened the scoring just three minutes into the action as he used his speed to get behind the NJIT defense with the ball and slotted it past John Ricketti to put Adelphi on the board, 1-0.
About 30 minutes later Tall got into the act, as John Koutsounadis played a beautiful through ball to a streaking Tall. The ball traveled 30 yards and found the feet of tall who did the rest, taking one touch and finding space in the back of the Highlander goal to put the Panther's up, 2-0 at the half.
After spending the first 20 minutes of the second half finding their flow again, Adelphi's Tall notched his second tally. This time Holder distributed the ball, finding the swift footed Tall, who took on Ricketti, sliding to the left, around the diving goalkeeper and seeing daylight scored his second of the night.
With just two and a half minutes left, Brendan Cullinan closed out the scoring for the Panthers with his first career goal. The ball found him in the NJIT penalty area and Cullinan, beat Ricketti for the final goal, sending it into the back of the net with no hesitation.
Ricketti made five stops in the loss, as Adelphi out shot NJIT, 18-2, however the Highlanders held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, November 3 when they travel to Manhattan to take on Ivy League member Columbia at 7:00 pm.
