Box Score
New Haven, Conn. -
The Adelphi University field hockey team traveled to take on the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University this evening in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Owls 3-1 lead at the half was all they needed as they went on to win, 3-2. SCSU improves to 7-9 and 5-3 in the NE-10, while Adelphi drops to 8-6 and 3-2.
Laura Dembofsky opened the scoring exactly six minutes in when she scored off an assist from Laurie Cockerline. It was the third straight game that Dembofsky has netted a goal.
The Owls extended their lead to 2-0 just under 11 minutes later on a marker from Aleida Mapes. Coming off a SCSU penalty corner, Mapes connected on a shot from the left side of the circle. Meghan Lahm and Farrier assisted on the goal.
Farrier made it 3-0 roughly five minutes later when she dribbled along the goal line and tucked a shot past the Adelphi goalie.
The Panthers cut the Owls’ lead to 3-1 at halftime when junior Julianne Gerbino set up sophomore Cassie Cabral for the score.
AU would cut the lead to 3-2 early in the second half when Gerbino netted an unassisted score, but it wasn't enough as SCSU held on for the win.
Lauren Zarrella had a big night with 13 saves, while sophomore Kristine Puzio and junior Lucia Vigliotti combined to make five stops.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 30 when they host Bentley University at 2:00 p.m.
