Women's Soccer Bested On The Road At New Haven, 1-0

The Adelphi University women's soccer team traveled to take on the Chargers of the University of New Haven this afternoon in its regular season finale. A first half goal by the Chargers was all they needed as they held on to defeat AU, 1-0. New Haven improves to 9-7-2 and 7-6-2 in the NE-10, while Adelphi drops to 8-7-1 and 8-7.

The Chargers scored the only goal of the contest 17:56 into the contest when Lucy Francisco scored in unassisted fashion for the eventual game-winner. Senior Brianne McDonnell had two opportunities in the final five minutes of the first half but Chargers' keeper Kim Taylor came up with two big saves to keep the score 1-0 New Haven.

The Panthers out shot the Chargers 14-4 in the first half of action, however, UNH held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

The second half was similar to the first as the Panthers held a big advantage in shots (10-2) but could not find the back of the net. Taylor would come up big in the second half as well with five saves, two of which came after the 85th minute on shots from McDonnell and sophomore Alison Gronenthal.

Taylor finished with 14 saves en route to the shut out, while junior Dorothy Connolly set aside one shot in the loss.

The Panthers will now wait their seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament which will start on Sunday, October 31.
