Oct. 23, 2010

Box Score

Rindge, N.H. -

The Adelphi University field hockey team traveled to take on Franklin Pierce University this afternoon in a conference contest. AU scored two goals in the first and second half en route to the win, 4-2. The Panthers improve to 8-5 and 3-1 in the NE-10, while the Ravens drop to 6-8 and 3-3.

The Panthers wasted little time getting on the board, 3:35 into the game, when junior Jeanette Heimerle found sophomore Cassie Cabral for her third goal of the season. The Panthers would then extend their lead to two goals when Heirmerle set up classmate Julianne Gerbino in front of the cage for the score. The Ravens would get on the board right before the half when Kimberly Jaksina netted an unassisted goal at the 27-minute mark.

FPU held the advantage in shots (8-5) and penalty corners (5-1) in the first half of action.

The Ravens would come out of the half and even the score at 2-2 when Danielle Dolan found Jordan Baillargeon with a feed from the right wing. Less than four minutes later, Gerbino would tally her second goal of the game for the eventual game-winner, unassisted. Freshman Emilee Rahner would net her first collegiate goal for an insurance score with the assist from classmate Jamie Ackerman.

FPU would also finish the game with a two-shot advantage (18-16) and a slight edge in penalty corners (9-8). Sophomore Kristine Puzio stopped a career-best 13 shots, while Brittany Nyzio played the final 48 minutes and made nine saves.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, October 27 when they travel to take on Southern Connecticut State University at 7:00 p.m.
