The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 20 to take on the Bucknell Bison in a non-conference contest. Adelphi and Bucknell were locked in a scoreless battle for 89 minutes before Bucknell broke through, picking up a 1-0 win. With the loss Adelphi falls to 7-6-1 overall, while the Bison improve to 6-6-1.
Adelphi got off six shots in the first half of action, forcing Bucknell's Marc Hartmann to make one stop, while the Bison took 11 shots at the Panther goal. Panther keeper, Thorne Holder was forced to make three saves to keep the game scoreless at the half.
The second frame was more of the same, as Bucknell again got off 11 shots. However, Holder was up to the task, making four saves on the first 10 attempts to keep the game scoreless. Adelphi managed five shots in the second half, but got over half of them on goal as Hartmann was able to turn three away.
Bucknell finally broke the time as Adelphi was whistled for a foul in the 89th minute, near the top of their own penalty area. The Bison's Tommy McCabe lined up the kick and then sent the ball around Adelphi's wall and into the back of the net, giving Bucknell a 1-0 victory.
In all Adelphi was out shot, 22-1 by Bucknell, but held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks at the end of 90 minutes.
THe Panthers return to action on October 30 when they play host to NJIT at 7:00 pm on Motamed Field.
