Waltham, MA -
The Adelphi University women's soccer team traveled to Waltham, Massachusetts on Saturday, October 2 to take on Northeast-10 Conference member Bentley University. Adelphi scored twice in the first 15 minutes of action on the way to a 4-0 victory that raises Adelphi's record to 3-3-1 overall and 3-3 in the NE-10, while Bentley falls to 0-7-2 overall and 0-5-2 in conference action.
Kim Volinski put the Panthers on the board in the eighth minute as she got her head on a ball in the Bentley box and beat Bentley's Kara Smith to put Adelphi ahead, 1-0. Then Volinski did it again just six minutes later, this time the traditional way, using her foot. She beat Smith again in the 14th minute to push the Panther advantage to 2-0.
The game would enter the half with the score remaining, 2-0 as neither team could find the back of the net in the final 30 minutes of action in the first frame. However, the Panthers struck early again in the second half of action as Emily Dunne put a bulge in the back of the Bentley goal 15 minutes into the second half action, giving Adelphi a comfortable, 3-0 cushion.
The Panthers put the icing on the game in the 73rd minute as Alison Gronenthal beat Miranda Charles to make the count, 4-0, which is how the game would end. Adelphi held a 14-8 edge in shots, while Bentley claimed corner kicks, 3-2. Charles and Smith combined for six saves, while Dorothy Connolly made three stops to pick up the clean sheet.
Adelphi returns to the pitch on Tuesday, October 5 when they play host to Southern Connecticut State at 6:00 pm.
