Box Score

Washington, DC - The Adelphi men's soccer team concluded their weekend away from campus on Sunday, October 17 with an Atlantic Soccer Conference contest in Washington DC against Howard University. The Panthers got second half goals from Brandon Stoneham and Nicholas Costa to remain unbeaten in the ASC thanks to a 2-0 victory. With the win Adelphi improves to 7-5-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.

The Panther defense really clamped down from the start, allowing Howard to get off just five shots in the entire game and just three in the first half. Adelphi goalkeeper Thorne Holder was forced to make four saves, as four of Howard's five shots found the goal, but Holder was equal to the task, posting a clean sheet.

Adelphi registered 10 shots in the first frame, but just one found the goal and was turned away by Larry Turner, sending the game into halftime in a scoreless tie. The Panthers finally broke through in the 67th minute as Travis Tennie sent a cross into the Bison box, where it found the head of Stoneham. Stoneham managed to redirect the ball past Turner and into the back of the Howard goal, scoring what would be the winning goal.

Just seven minutes later Adelphi was pressuring the Howard goal, when the ball got loose inside the Bison penalty area. Costa was able to control the ball and slide it into the back of the Howard goal, making the score, 2-0.

Adelphi held a big edge in shots, 18-5 and corner kicks, 9-3 in the win and return to action on Wednesday, October 20 when they travel to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to take on Bucknell.
