The Adelphi University field hockey team traveled to take on No. 7 Stonehill College this afternoon in a conference contest in Easton, Mass. The Skyhawks scored midway through the second half to hold on for the 1-0 win. Stonehill improves to 9-5 and 5-0 in the NE-10, while AU drops to 7-5 and 2-1.
The score remained even at 0-0 in the first half of play with only eight total shots (Stonehill - 6, AU - 2). The Skyhawks also held the advantage in penalty corners (4-1).
At the 51-minute mark of the second half, Courtney Foley tallied her third goal of the season with the assist from Lauren Gifford off a penalty corner.
The Skyhawks got off 12 shots in the second half and finished with 18 for the game, while the Panthers finished with 10 shots. Stonehill held the edge in penalty corners as well, 10-6.
Courtney Osier set aside six shots in the shutout, while sophomore Kristine Puzio recorded seven saves in the tough loss.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 23 when they travel to take on Franklin Pierce University at 3:00 p.m.
