Women's Soccer Defeats St. Michael's, 2-1

The Adelphi University women's soccer team traveled to take on the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College this afternoon. The Panthers held a 1-0 halftime lead and went to win, 2-1. AU improves to 6-5-1 and 6-5 in the Northeast-10, while SMC drops to 5-8-2 and 4-7-2.

For Adelphi, senior Emily Dunne headed in the Panthers’ first goal in the 14th minute, assisted by senior Kristen Dexter and senior Brianne McDonnell. McDonnell then netted a goal in the 70th minute off a pass from sophomore Kaitlin Monteith to put Adelphi up by two.

Sophomore Cassie Crockett cut the deficit in half when she trapped a pass from Senecal and blasted a shot into the right corner of the net in the 78th minute, but the Panthers held on for the 2-1 victory.

Junior goalie Brittany Cocozza made three saves for the Purple Knights, and junior keeper Dorothy Connolly stopped six shots for Adelphi.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, October 19 when they travel to take on league-rival Pace University at 3:30 p.m.
