The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption and East Coast Conference member Mercy on Sunday, October 10. The Panthers dispatched both teams, 3-0, collecting two victories to improve to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in Northeast-10 play.
Adelphi vs. Assumption
Adelphi had little trouble with Assumption, posting 49 total kills in the game, while the host Greyhounds mustered just 24. The first set was a 25-19 Adelphi win behind 21 kills and an attack percentage of .357. The Panthers followed that up with, 25-14 and 25-13 wins to take the match, 3-0.
In the second set Adelphi held Assumption to an attack percentage of .036 and turned up the defense even more in the fourth set, as the Greyhounds could only produce a percentage of .000 compared to Adelphi's attack percentage of .424.
Both Emily Dorko and Patawe Simms managed 10 kills, while Hilary Pavels had nine kills and 13 digs. Heather Mau also contributed 13 digs as Katie Bryson led the Panthers with 26 assists.
Adelphi vs. Mercy
The Panthers cruised through the first two sets, but Mercy rallied in the third, threatening to push Adelphi to a fourth set. Adelphi captured sets one and two, 25-13 and 25-10 behind attack percentage of .321 and .375.
However, Mercy came out strong in set three, moving out to a 7-3 lead early. Mercy would extend the lead to 18-12 and still led late in the game, 23-18. But, two straight Mercy attack errors allowed Adelphi back into the game, 23-20, before a Mustang attack put Mercy one point from victory, 24-20. From there Adelphi turned it up, producing five straight kills to take a one point lead, 25-24 and getting a Heather Mau service ace to seal the win.
Pavels had a tremendous offensive game, registering 20 digs, while Colleen Raga had nine. Erika Loomer had a game-high 25 assists, while Mau had 21 digs and Chelsea Overholt chipped in 13 digs.
Adelphi returns to action on Friday, October 15 when they play host to Bentley University at 6:00 pm.
