Panther Women Stifled by No. 1 Franklin Pierce, 80-39

Rindge, N.H. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team suffered its worst loss of the season at the hands of #1-ranked Franklin Pierce, 80-39. The Ravens remain perfect with an 18-0 record and 14-0 in the Northeast-10. The Panthers fall to 3-16 and 0-14 in conference play.

Junior Ashley Caiafa was the only Panther in double digits with 10 points as the team connected on just 8-of-30 from the field, or 26.7 percent. In contrast, the Ravens shot 46.3 percent to pull open a 42-21 lead at intermission.

The second half was much of the same as Franklin Pierce outscored Adelphi 38-18 to cruise to victory. The Ravens dominated the boards, pulling down 62 rebounds as compared to 29 for the Panthers.

A total of 14 Ravens contributed in the win led by Johannah Leedhman with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jewel White chipped in 13 points to go along with nine points. Marielle Giroud also pulled down 10 rebounds and contributed nine points.

Adelphi returns to conference play on Saturday, January 30, as they host the College of Saint Michael's at 1:00 p.m. This is also Alumni Day for the Panthers with a full day of activities beginning with an alumni reception at 12:00 noon. Immediately following the conference doubleheader at 5:30 p.m., alumni are invited to participate in the annual alumni games.
