The Adelphi University women's basketball team trailed by 23 points at the half and were unable to rally back, falling 78-53 on the road at Bentley University. The Falcons improve to 12-5 and 10-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers drop to 3-14 and 0-12 in conference play.
Freshman Alexis Williams led all scorers with a game high 17 points to go along with six rebounds. Sophomore Theresa Foley chipped in 12 points and 7 boards.
The Falcons, which connected on 64.3 percent of their shots from the field in the first half opened the first half on a 11-0 run through 16:48. Bentley's margin grew to 18 points, 27-9, on a layup by Colette Josey at 9:48. The Panthers connected on just 8-of-25 from the field and could not sustain a rally as they were never able to close the gap to single digits. Adelphi trailed 44-21 at intermission.
Bentley's lead grew to 26 points, 51-25, at 16:07 in the second half. A quick spurt of six unanswered points by the Panthers through the midway point knocked the deficit down to 17 points, 59-42, but this is as close as they would get. The Falcons maintained a 20+ lead for the remainder of the contest, cruising to a 78-53 win.
Kelsey Roberson tallied a career-high 15 points off the bench for Bentley, with Kelly Barrett also contributing 15 points along with six rebounds. Josey had 10 points and eight rebounds, with Dedra Pritchard also adding 10 points.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 23, as they host Stonehill College at 1:00 p.m. The conference doubleheader continues with the men at 3:30 p.m. as the Panthers host their annual Take A Kid To The Game Day festivities. Children under 12 will be admitted free with a paying adult.
