The Adelphi University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2009 season, dropping a 1-0 decision to #4-ranked The College of Saint Rose on Monday afternoon at Competition Field. The Golden Knights improve to 4-0, while the Panthers fall to 3-1 and 2-1 in Northeast-10 action.
Saint Rose took control early in the first half as Deanna Wachtel headed in the game winner at 4:44 on a feed from Coco Ebersole. The Golden Knights outshot the Panthers 10-4 over the first 45 minutes of play.
Adelphi picked up the intensity in the second half, holding the Golden Knights to just four shots, while picking up several good looks as well. The Panthers had three shots on goal early on in the half, but all were stopped by goalie Deanna Esposito to perserve the win.
Sophomore Dorothy Connolly tallied three saves for the Panthers, while Susan Crowan made three stops in the first half for Saint Rose.
Adelphi returns to action next Saturday, September 12, as they host St. Michael's College at 12 noon.
