The Adelphi University field hockey played host to Saint Anselm College this afternoon on Competition Field. With the score tied 2-2 at the half, the Panthers found the back of the net three times in the second half for the 5-2 victory. Sophomore Julianne Gerbino tallied two scores on the afternoon, giving her seven on the season.
The Hawks struck first, 13:51 in, when Maddie Cantarow scored on a penalty stroke. A little more than three minutes after Cantarow's score, Gerbino scored an unassisted goal, tying the score at one. Saint Anselm would answer back with 9:48 remaning in the half, when Maura Hurley found Krsitina Katsikis for the score. With 19 seconds left in the half, sophomore Theresa Murphy setup classmate Brittany Kinsley for the game-tying goal, her first on the season.
The Panthers started out the second half with two scores in 7:57. The first came from Gerbino, which was setup by junior Lindsay Williams, at 42:01. The second Panther goal came from sophomore Laura Stafford, her second of the season, which came off a feed from classmate Crystal Gray on a penalty corner. The third and final goal for the Panthers came at 60:42, when sophomore Jeanette Heimerle found junior Natasha Pedzik in a scramble in front of the net for Pedzik's second tally of the season.
Adelphi ended the game with an 18-11 shot-advantage as well as a 13-5 advantage on penalty corners.
Sophomore Lucia Vigliotti recorded six saves in the win, while Lindsey MacDonald stopped 10 shots in defeat.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 12 when they travel to take on league-opponent Franklin Pierce University at 1:00 pm.
