Volleyball Tops Tiffin, Falls to UW-Parkside in Erie, Pennsylvania

Erie, PA - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Erie, Pennsylvania on Friday, September 4 to compete in the Gannon/Mercyhurst tournament. On the first day of action the Panthers fell to UW-Parkside in four games, 3-1, while topping Tiffin in five games. With the split Adelphi sits at 2-4 overall on the season.

Adelphi vs. Tiffin

The Panthers came out hot, scoring on 56 percent of their attacks in game one to take a 1-0 lead on the strength of a 25-13 win. Adelphi kept up the pressure in game two, but Tiffin found their rythmn as the Panthers claimed a tight 25-21 win. Tiffin came out on the winning side in games three and four, 25-15 and 25-19 to force a game five, which was all Adelphi as the Panthers collected the win with a 15-9 victory.

Hilary Pavels had a game-high 16 kills, while Kelsey Hackett chipped in 11. Heather Mau handed out a game best 50 assists and had 15 digs, while Amy Williams had 23 and Pavels posted 22.

Adelphi vs. UW-Parkside

The Panthers started slowly against Parkside, falling in game one 25-9, but rallied in game two to take a tight 25-22 decision. The next two games were also close affairs but Parkside edged out the Panthers 25-21 and 25-22 to collect the win.

Hackett had another big game, posting 14 kills, while Mau had 30 assists and 13 digs.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, September 5 when they take on hosts Gannon and Mercyhurst.
