Adelphi Women Cage the NYIT Bears, 4-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University soccer team led 3-0 at the half en route to a 4-0 win over NYIT in non-conference action this evening at Competition Field. The Panthers snap a two game slump to improve to 7-3, while the Bears fall to 1-6.

Adelphi's onslaught began in the first half as they outshot the Bears, 17-7, in the first 45 minutes of play. Junior Emily Dunne put the Panthers on board in the 18th minute on an unassisted goal. Then in the 31st minute, senior Amanda Popoli's shot was blocked by the NYIT goalie, setting up the rebound shot by sophomore Kristen Dexter to make it a 2-0 game. Sophomore Alicia Gibbons recorded her first collegiate goal on another rebound shot at 43:50 to find the back of the net and give the Panthers a 3-0 cushion at intermission.

The Panthers pulled back its rally in the second half, taking just six shots with only one on goal. Freshman Kaitlin Monteith scored on a cross from freshman Cathleen Reardon at 79:19.

Sophomore Dorothy Connolly picked up the win with one save in 51:08 minutes in the net. Junior Angela Matinale made two stops in 38:07 in relief. Kathryn Miller made six saves in 42:42 in goal for NYIT before subbing out due to injury. Kristen O'Connor completed the final 46:33 of play.

Adelphi returns to conference action this Saturday, October 3, as they travel to Manchester, New Hampshire to take on Saint Anselem College at 1:00 p.m.
