The Adelphi University field hockey team traveled to New Haven, Connecticut this afternoon to take on the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University. The Owls added a goal in each half to secure the win. The loss drops the Panthers to 7-4 and 2-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Owls improve to 3-9 and 2-2 in the league.
The Owls got off just one shot in the first half, proving to be the game-winner, when Dieny Charlot scored an unassisted goal at 20:17. The Panthers got off eight shots in the first half, while also holding a 5-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Southern Connecticut would then add an insurance goal at 60:21, when Ann Berry found KellyAnne McCafferty for the Owl's second tally of the game. Adelphi ended play with advantages in both shots and penalty corners, 12-9 and 8-5, respectively.
Sophomore Lucia Vigliotti stopped three shots in the loss for the Panthers, while Lauren Zarrella recorded six saves en route to the shutout.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 3 when they host #6 Stonehill College at 2:00 pm on Competition Field.
