The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to Stony Brook, New York on Saturday, September 26 to take on Stony Brook. The Panthers found themselves trailing, 1-0, just 10 minutes into the action, but reeled off two unanswered goals in the second half to pull out a 2-1 win. With the victory Adelphi improves to 5-1-2 overall, while Stony Brook falls to 1-7-2.
The Seawolves took the lead in the ninth minute when Kyle Schlesinger Followed up a foul on Adelphi, serving a free kick into the box. Damion Brown headed the ball past Adelphi keeper Thorne Holder to give the Seawolves the early 1-0 lead.
However, Holder would redeem himself, making five saves in the first half to keep the Panthers in the game at the half, trailing, 1-0. The Panthers struck early in the second frame to knot the game at one, as John Koutsounadis took control of a rebound, that was given up by Stony Brook's Anthony Rogic and slipped it into the right hand corner of the net.
Issa Tall followed up Adelphi's first goal with the go ahead tally in the 69th minute as he moved within nine yards of the goal and sent the ball to the right side of the Seawolve goal, beating Rogic to give the Panther's the 2-1 lead. Holder did the rest making two saves in the second half to secure the win for Adelphi.
Each team took three corner kicks, and Stony Brook out shot Adelphi 17-14, while the Panthers doubled up the Seawolves on fouls, 22-11.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, September 30 when they travel to New Jersey to take on St. Peter's College.
