Women's Soccer Edges Stonehill, 1-0

Easton, Mass. - Junior Brianne McDonnell scored the game-winner at 36:25 to lift No.15 Adelphi University to a 1-0 conference victory over Stonehill College yesterday afternoon. With the win, the Panthers improve to 6-1-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Skyhawks fall to 4-3-0 and 2-3-0.

Both teams played pretty even in the first half, with Adelphi holding a slight 9-8 shot advantage. McDonnell's goal in the 37th minute came on a long pass from senior Amanda Popoli to put the Panthers ahead.

The Skyhawks outshot the Panthers 8-5 in the second half, with a 2-0 corner kick advantage. However, sophomore goalkeeper Dorothy Connolly perserved the win with four of her seven saves coming in the second stanza. Sarah Hickey made 11 saves for Stonehill.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, September 22, as they head to Syracuse, New York to take on LeMoyne College at 4:00 p.m.
