The Adelphi University women's soccer team topped Pace University, 3-0, in Northeast-10 action this evening at Competition Field. The Panthers improve to 5-1 and 4-1 in the conference, while the Setters fall to 1-4-1 and 0-4 in the league.
Junior Brianne McDonnell notched her third game-winner of the season in the 10th minute on an assist from senior Kayte Kinsley. Less than a minute later, senior Karen Roveto added an insurance goal at 10:03 with help from junior Kristen Dexter.
Adelphi found the back of the net again in the second half, with senior Amanda Popoli blasting a shot from the top of the box on a pass from senior Caitlin Morrison at 67:28.
The Panthers riddled the Setters net with 29 shots, while in comparison allowing just three shots for the visitor. Sophomore Dorothy Connolly was only challenged once, making the save. Junior Angela Matinale stepped in for the final 18 minutes of play, perserving the shutout. Courtney Hagan made nine stops for the Setters, while starting goalie Monique Morey had three saves.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, September 19, travling to North Easton, Mass to take on Stonehill College at 11:00 am.
