Volleyball Blanks C.W. Post, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to cross town rival C.W. Post in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, September 15. Adelphi jumped on the Pioneers, 25-7 in game one and then cruised to wins of 25-13 and 25-16 in games two and three. With the win the Panthers improve to 8-5 overall, while C.W. Post falls to 3-7.

In game one, with the scored knotted at three a Hilary Pavels kill started a 7-1 run that gave the Panthers a 10-4 edge. From there Adelphi cruised to a 25-7 victory, which was closed out by a Kelsey Hackett kill. The second game saw Adelphi jump out to a 5-0 lead, including a service ace by Alexandra Kahen. The Pioneers closed to within three points late, 13-10, but a Hackett kill sparked a 9-1 run that helped Adelphi to a 25-13 win.

Adelphi jumped on C.W. Post again in game three, taking a 7-1 lead, before the Pioneers rallied to pull within four points, 14-10. The Panthers pulled away again, using a quick 6-3 spurt to take a 20-13 lead on a Pioneer error and put the game out of reach on the way to a 25-16 game and 3-0 match win.

Audrey Goss led the Panther attack with nine kills and nine digs, while Hackett chipped in eight kills. Both Erika Loomer and Amy Williams collected 10 digs, while Heather Mau posted 12 assits and Loomer added 13.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 19 when they travel to Oakdale, New York to take on Dowling College.
