Sept. 13, 2009

Box Score

Providence, RI - The Adelphi University men's soccer concluded play in the Brown Soccer Classic on Sunday, September 13 against the host Brown Bears. Brown scored late in the first half and then again in the opening minutes of the second to sink the Panthers, 2-0. With the loss Adelphi sits at 1-1-2, while Brown improves to 2-0-1. For their play in the tournament both Alex Kouznetsov and Issa Tall were named to the all-tournament team.

The Bears had an 8-2 advantage in shots after the first 45 minutes of play, and went on to out-shoot the Panthers 15-8. Adelphi also trailed in corner kicks, 8-4 and were whistled for more fouls, 18-13.

Brown had some early looks at Adelphi's goal but the Panther defense made some nice blocks and goalkeeper Kyle Blackmer, was able to make some nice stops. Blackmer made a great stop at the 36:51 mark on a Bear strike, but three minutes later a shot from the left side at 39:58 found the mark and put Brown up 1-0.

Adelphi kept the pressure on the Bears throughout the second half, and picked up 13 fouls in the final 45 minutes of play and had a few looks on goal, forcing Paul Grandstrand to make some tough saves. Two minutes into the second half Brown scored its second goal of the day as a Bear attacker booted a low left shot from about 12 yards out that slipped past Blackmer.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, September 18 when they play host to VMI at 7:00 pm on Competition Field.
